At the Digital Nation Hackathon last September on the island of Vormsi, a team of EERICA members joined forces with some Estonians to create an app which matches Estonians and e-Residents for a conversation. It’s called RUNO, and with it we want to build bridges between people by establishing these one on one connections between individuals with different backgrounds. RUNO is a tool for cultural exchange and friendship across borders in these difficult times where most borders are closed and our physical movements are restricted.
But the app doesn’t work that well without a community of people! If nobody else is online, you won’t be able to have much of a conversation. Which is why on May 31st, we will have RUNO Sõbrapäev, which means Friend’s Day in Estonian (fun fact: this is also what Estonians celebrate on February 14th instead of Valentine’s Day). This is a public event for all e-Residents and Estonians. All you need to participate is a phone, Smart-ID, and a few minutes to get to know someone new!
You are of course welcome to open the app any time you are free, but to maximize the number of conversations, we are recommending two time windows: 9:00-11:00, and 17:00-19:00 (5pm-7pm) Estonian Time (GMT+3). This will maximize the chances of everyone getting a conversation or two.
